The AJ Oxford Table Lamp has an elegant graphic expression that captures the architecture of St Catherine’s College, Oxford, for which it was originally designed. St Catherine’s College, opened in 1963, was designed by Arne Jacobsen in a modernist architectural style that contrasts with the classical architecture of Oxford University. The AJ Oxford Table Lamp was initially designed as a pin table lamp for the College’s impressive dining hall, with long rows of oak tables and seating for 350. The lamp acts as a centrepiece, while natural light streams in through the clerestory windows and the AJ Eklipta wall lamp provides diffuse general lighting. The lamp can still be seen in St Catherine’s College, which continues to operate for educational purposes and as a student residence.
