It was originally introduced in the 1950s. Designed in close collaboration between the Navy Building Department and Louis Poulsen, the pendant lamp was used for many years in Navy buildings for various applications, including canteens and offices. The Navy Pendant, as it was then called, was widely used thanks to its unique lighting properties and practicality. It wasn’t until the early 1980s that it disappeared from Louis Poulsen catalogs. The design has a timeless feel but a strong connection to the New Look of the 1950s. It was reintroduced as the Doo-Wop in 2012 with new colors and a brass version. New metal editions in copper and stainless steel were released in 2017. The manufacturing methods remain the same; the shades are still hand-spun and finished with the fine, rounded rim that gives them a distinctive visual volume. The brass variant, in particular, challenges the craftsman, as it is centrifuged from a solid sheet of brass and appears polished.
